Peterborough Pagans Rugby Club’s Melvin Alexis named Senior Male Club Player of the Year by Rugby Ontario
Peterborough, ON – Oct. 30, 2024 – The Peterborough Pagans Rugby Club is proud to share that Melvin Alexis has been awarded Senior Male Club Player of the Year by Rugby Ontario. This prestigious accolade recognizes outstanding performance and leadership within the sport, and Melvin exemplifies the very best of what rugby has to offer.
The Annual Awards ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of athletes, coaches, match officials, and volunteers, highlighted Melvin’s exceptional contributions to the game. Throughout the season, he emerged as a key player for the Pagans, leading the team in tries and showcasing his skill as a premier scoring threat in the Marshall Premiership. Notably, Melvin scored three tries during the 31-20 Fall Cup victory over London, further solidifying his status as one of the league’s top performers.
Last year, Melvin was awarded Most Improved Senior Men’s Player of the Year at the annual awards banquet with the Peterborough Rugby Club’s senior teams. Melvin also expanded his game to the 7s variation this season and was invited to the Canadian Maple Leafs camp in April, being named Player of the Tournament with Great North 7s. This year, being recognized at the provincial level with Rugby Ontario, is a clear indication of his dedication to the sport.
“Melvin is an exceptional athlete, teammate, and leader,” said coach Aaron Stinchcombe. “He has improved his game to be one of the elite scoring threats in the league. He leads by example and always does so with positivity and encouragement. Melvin has worked extremely hard to improve his play and become a dominate provincial level player. He continues to look for opportunities to showcase his skills and we are very lucky to have Melvin play and improve on his game here in Peterborough.”
Melvin’s impact extends beyond his on-field performance. His dedication to fostering a positive rugby culture and mentoring fellow players aligns perfectly with the values of Rugby Ontario. His commitment to personal growth and community involvement further cements his role as an ambassador for the sport.
“I am extremely grateful to be recognized with this award,” Melvin stated. “It truly is a testament to the Peterborough Rugby Club program, outlining their dedication to development and growth of the sport. I would like to express my gratitude to my teammates and coaching staff; everyone played a vital role in this year’s Championship winning season. I’m excited to further my development and advance my rugby career.”
The Peterborough Pagans Rugby Club congratulates Melvin on this well-deserved honor and looks forward to witnessing his continued success both on and off the field.
